I have to admit to have used sampling software to create music, so perhaps my views on ai writing machines is somewhat tarnished. I used the software because although music is a massive part of my life, I am not a musician. So maybe I get the imperative to use a tool to help you do something which does not come naturally… yes I get that.
However, I was not trying to cheat my musical niavete but rather to enhance what I already knew about music… and here is the point, although I enjoyed my efforts, most people who listened to my results found them awful! The obvious flaw in my musical aspirations was that I didn’t have any ability.
As a writer for all my adult life, published poet, journalist, editor, playwright, and unpublished novelist, I can categorically state that every word I have written has come directly from my own fetid mind, for good or ill, and the idea of using a pseudo writing machine is absolutely abhorrent.
The point, the only point of writing is very much point of view. It has to be your own experience of being on this mortal coil. Whether what you write is fiction, poetry, humour or fantasy… It still has to be an analogue of your thoughts and soul. Anything else is false. If it’s not an expression of your soul, then what is the fucking point?
I would even go as far as to say the use of grammar correcting tools is pushing the boundaries, but the idea of an AI plot developer, why? Why bother? Who wants your endeavours if they are not your own?
Anyway have a lovely sunday.
