KRAPP’S LAST TAPE

BY SAMUEL BECKETT

I delighted in this play when I was at university… only now with the aid of facebook memories, I find that I am living it. I look back to 9,10, 11 years ago, and I think what a fool I was back then, constantly trying to make people laugh… then to my chagrin, I look at what I did today and realise, with a sharp intake of breath, I’m still doing the bloody same thing! oh well, Plus ça change, plus c’est la même chose… As Beckett would probably say. For you information his plays were written in french and then translated. And him an Irish man to boot.

We are all fools of our own making.
