LIVING IN THE NOW
Since the end of the second World War, we ordinary people have been able to, with some certainty, defer our pleasures. We could book holidays months in advance with a close to 100% accuracy that these bookings would be honoured. The future was a safe bet. Our society was progressive, ever growing, gdp would rise year on year and we held, to some extent, a bright and prosperous future.
These certainties can no longer be expected or even planned. If 2020 has taught us anything, it has shown us that we live in a state of flux. The future is no longer knowable.
If you think that the last six months have been bad… you ain’t seen nothing yet!
All empires fall. The myth of a brighter future, which we have viewed as a certainty for sixty years, has crashed. The next six months are going to be catastrophic. Economies will fail, food distribution will slow to a trickle, and the police state will either clampdown hard on us all, or else fall to the mob… either way, the hegemony of our worldview will be destroyed.
Sorry, if I’m being over-dramatic, but I am a Sociologist, and I have been trained to be able to forecast future societal trends.
So, my advice, for what its worth, is do not defer your pleasures, do them now, be it holidays, socialising or whatever, for booking long term even a month from now will be pointless.
Stay safe my friends and avoid large groups, hysteria is never pretty.
