The essence of all slavery consists in taking the produce of another’s labor by force. It is immaterial whether this force be founded upon ownership of the slave or ownership of the money that he must get to live. LEO TOLSTOY
Having spent months trying to persuade certain people around me of the efficacy of socialism over capitalism, I have come to an astonishing revelation…
WE ARE WIRED DIFFERENTLY. OUR BRAIN CHEMISTRY IS DIFFERENT.
This is the only conclusion I can make. Socialists think in a different way about society than their capitalist neighbours. Both fail to see how the other can think that way.
As a socialist, the primary belief is that all people are essentially good and if we work together towards a common end, we can make this world a better place. This is how we feel, seriously!
The opposite side cannot believe this, will not believe it. They have bought the idea that socialism is about envy… You don’t want to work hard, like those in power have to get ahead, you envy their wealth and want to steal it…
As Boris has said, “Inequality is essential for the spirit of envy” Capitalists evoke inequality, to promote a spirit of envy, and by rote, the feeling of superiority over people who are worse off than you. This is why social interaction is always started with the phrase,
What do you do for a living?
Not what do you believe, or what do you love, but what is your socio-economic status.
Our social interaction requires that we stratify each other by our economic worth.
I have never done this. I have never asked that question of anybody in my life. I have never been interested in what someone else does to earn a crust. The job does not describe the person. It is a false coda.
I have never envied anybody their wealth. I guess that this is because I’m on the autistic spectrum, and I simply do not have the mental capacity. It is just impossible for me to comprehend the conservative/tory/capitalist mindset, and obversely, they cannot get to grips with my mindset… And I just cannot get passed this.
I’m so frustrated. The horror of a Conservative victory in the general election looms like a spectre of doom in front of me, and I for one, will be tempted to leave the country should it occur… Amsterdam calls to me across the North Sea.
